The Brave Locomotive is a six-minute independent animated short film produced and directed by Andrew Chesworth, with music by Tom Hambleton at Undertone Music.
It was conceived as a love letter to the Andrews Sisters and 1940s animation. Andrew Chesworth developed the concept in 2008, and produced and recorded the music with Tom Hambleton in 2009. The complete animatic was storyboarded by Chesworth. Although the project was shelved in 2011 when Chesworth began as a CG character animator at Disney, it lies dormant with a wealth of materials to share. A complete manuscript for a children's book has also been developed. The work-in-progress of the opening sequence is alive and well on YouTube and Vimeo, where it has generated well over 8 million views.
